But its still industrial... Thats what it sounds like, cause thats what it is..... Not post punk, Industrial.

Just my opinion, dont bite my head off...

swim 05-09-2006 06:56 PM

Similar, yes. Outgrowth? Considering that punk and industrial started at the same time I find it hard to believe unless you can explain otherwise.

DevotchkaDream 05-09-2006 06:58 PM

Throbbing Gristle was one of the first industrial bands...

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-09-2006 07:00 PM

I was referring to the period not the sound

mike1372 11-30-2006 07:39 PM

What about skate punk? 7-Seconds, Agent Orange, All, etc.?

PaperHurricanesAndPlanes 01-06-2007 11:22 PM

No mention of the Slits or Eddie and the Hotrods either. Mission of Burma pwns.

sleepy jack 01-06-2007 11:24 PM

I'm going to try and revise it at some point.

I'll probably PM various people for help though.

Frankiestar 02-02-2007 05:24 AM

twas a great help..

bardonodude 03-04-2007 01:56 PM

nice thread =D, "This exposure has led some punk fundamentalists to regard the current state of punk as being “dead.” I agree to a certain extent, you dont see or hear about nearly as many people wanting anarchy and living the punk lifestyle to the extreme like it used to be in the 80's and early 90's. Punk seems to be more or less just a fashion now.

egglap 05-08-2007 04:35 PM

Hi I have been reading these boards for a while as a guest and decided to join, but I have to ask-why is there a constant need to label music and give sub genres?.

Of course you need to de-classify music to a certain extent, but when I explain a certain album to a friend etc-I need to simplify matters. Pigeon holing music into specific areas makes music lose it's appeal IMO.

For example-THE BEATLES- no I'm not the biggest fan, but how can you really classify them? POP?-YES! ROCK?-in their day-YES! EXPERIMENTAL-yes!, AVANT GARDE-yes!. So what sort of band are THE BEATLES?

They are a more complex band admittedly, but surely we can reduce the genres?

Music should never divide people-it should bring people together.

sleepy jack 05-08-2007 04:39 PM

"What does this band sound like? Like genre?"
"They're a rock band"
"Oh thanks that helps..."

egglap 05-08-2007 06:10 PM

Crowquil-an ego is never good in listening or creating..

cardboard adolescent 05-08-2007 06:29 PM

wtf

Assuming you meant "ego" that still doesn't really make sense since having an ego is kind of essential to living.

swim 05-08-2007 06:31 PM

He was definitely talking about the waffles. get with it yo

IF you can't argue your points without hurling insults then don't bother.

Here's a funky idea. If you want it the opening post then write something that follows suit about it.

Good call.

Folk Punk:

Those P.C. hippie punks that don't shower and call themselves anarchists, but are more like socialists if anything. They tell tales of dreadlocks, eating out of dumpsters, hopping trains, and militant veganism - whatever the f*ck that is.

{^not to be taken serious. i'm kinda rusty on my internet etiquette}

Ex: This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb, Ghost Mice, Defiance Ohio, and the rest (sorry, I don't think you need to look any further than those IMO. Maybe old Against Me! Maybe Operation Cliff Clavin - a big maybe on that actually)

Trauma 06-25-2007 11:45 AM

You can download everything Defiance, Ohio has on their website I believe (if anyone is interested).

Also, hi Hookers!

ummmm well my generation by the who is about irish imigrants

I_want_your_salvation13 08-27-2007 10:48 AM

There needs to be more mention of punk-ska bands in this thread,
ex. Rancid, The Flaming Tsunamis, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (who are more or less 3rd wave ska not exactly punk-ska..but whatev), Old Less Than Jake, Sonic Boom Six, Streetlight Manifesto, and tons more,

And I saw NO mention of any Irish/folkish punk an amazing genre IMO
bands such as The Briggs, Flogging Molly, The Dropkick Murphys, Street Dogs,
The Tossers etc...

I_want_your_salvation13 08-27-2007 11:02 AM

P.S.> THANK YOU FOR NOT POSTING ANYTHING ABOUT THE GOD DAMNED CASUALTIES!
I commend you for not saying anything about those sellout walking contradiction piles of ****! **** them and their talentless leader Jorge

kevinpunx 08-29-2007 02:38 AM

the casualties are crap..

J.Di18 10-04-2007 11:32 PM

A question: Should Post-Hardcore be included in this thread or in the Indie thread? I'm leaning more toward this one.

sleepy jack 10-04-2007 11:35 PM

Well it should go in the never created hardcore education thread...Which I should finish since its half done and still sitting on my desktop.

That is a very specific percentage!

Gates_of_Iscariot 12-18-2007 07:21 PM

lol, It actually is alot of bands that are of the punk vein I like, Due to the enormous amount out there. For example, i like the sex pistols, for some odd reasons, but every kid who tries to be punk rock name drops them so, I wont give them as an example. I hate most pop Punk, besides the Descendent's, and Richard hell, etc. I like hardcore punk, but not what the kids t my school think it is, I like Rudimentary, Crass, leftover crack, and choking victim, Rollins band, black flag, Reagan youth. Children at my school think that The casualties, and gg allin are PUNK RAWK. Sigh. The punk scene where I live is pretty basically the worst ive seen in all the places I've been, in fact its this little pathetic subculture inspired by the wrong ideals, that were perverted.

Rainard Jalen 12-31-2007 07:58 AM

How come Christian punk is not included here?

teshadoh 12-31-2007 10:22 AM

In that case where is Islam punk? Taqwacore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

anticipation 12-31-2007 12:28 PM

the reasons christian punk and islam punk aren't there is because both those genres are the stupidest fucking things in the world.

What a load of trollop. Punk music has its very origins in Jesus and Christianity. Early Christianity was characterized by a rebellious anti-establishment disposition and a D.I.Y. approach to scholastic theology contrary to the highly regimented, set ways of the Pharisees. That Christian punk has not been mentioned at all here is simply a travesty.

anticipation 12-31-2007 12:49 PM

Totally, I mean it's not like anyone had rebellious feelings towards establishment before Jesus or anything.
